Economic Breeding Programs: Economic selection indexes depend on relative economic values to derive a measure of merit. The focus of this course is to provide background in system analysis techniques needed to derive sensible estimates of the relative economic values and apply them, particularly in indexes composed of estimated breeding values.

Heterosis and Crossbreeding Systems: This course will introduce the principles of heterosis and elucidate mating systems that capture heterosis using crossbreeding. Upon completing this course you should: 1) Appreciate current uses of breed resources by livestock industries; Be able to decompose breed and crossbred group means into their genetic expectations and use these expectations to predict performance of various breed crosses; and 3) Develop an ability to recommend and justify crossbreeding systems for food-animal species. This course is accessible through Kansas State University via distance education (ASI 661, Section ZC).
Both courses are accessible through the Agldea Consortium at: http://www.agidea.org/programs/gen/
